I read this book as a young child (and I've just begun to realize I'm old- lol) and I begged my mom to buy it through Waldenbooks at the mall when I was a kid back in the late 70's for me for Christmas. When I got older I even started collecting peg wooden reproduction dolls that a local artist made because of this book, I loved the story so much as well as french fashion dolls like the book talks about. It is a wonderful magical and funny story. So glad you were able to still find a copy to review! I still have my original hardcopy that my mom purchased.
