This Saturday morning I am sharing with you a memory of my first My Little Pony. I remember it was 1983, my sister had just been born and my great grandmother was visiting from Montreal. She and I made our way on foot to our local toy store where she let me pick out my very one My Little Pony. For me it was love at first sight. I remember the walk, the sound in the mall ad that Hans Christian Andersen Toy Store I remember it was on the left hand side of the store and it was hanging on one of those long silver hooks that attached to the wall. The store had three pony's on that wall, Butterscotch, Cotton Candy and Minty. I remember how the package felt, how the pony smelled and the feeling of joy as I carried it home. My then almost two year old sister got Cotton Candy, even though she was much to little for it, my great grandmother wanted her to have one too. This cherished memory is sadly just a memory and I no long have that pony. But I cherish the memory of that day and the hours I spent playing with her. I am seriously considering purchasing one from Etsy, even though a few years ago I bought one of the re released ones, it is just not quite the same.
I have looked but there are no photos I can find of me with my ponies so I only have the memories of that day and the playdates I had with friends & my sisters and our ponies, I will if I do find my re released one of if I get up the nerve to order a vintage one.

I understand. My ponies did not successfully survive our fire two years ago. I have them but they reek of soot. It was heart crushing. I spent hours playing with them. The new ones are just not the same.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a sweet memory, Karen. In 1983 I was 23 and still working at my office job in downtown Vancouver. I wasn't into collecting dolls then, although I had all my childhood ones and still do. I was also married for one year by that time. I have many childhood memories, and I think I will begin to blog about them. It's a great idea! I loved getting dolls for my birthday, and for Christmas. We rarely got toys in between, except when an aunt mailed things to us. That was always a very special occasion!
