Rememberance Day
Today is Remembrance Day here in Canada a day where Canadians take time to honor our military efforts and remember those who gave their lived so we could live in our country in freedom.
In Canada it is customary to wear a Poppy on remembrance day. The day is marked with parades and quiet reflection.
Children in schools collect money to donate to the veterans poppy funds which helps goes to a charity for services for veterans, assisting them in many ways. Collection tins and volunteers offer poppies (like the one shown here) to people outside of stores and in many businesses.
Today I would like to show you how to make a Remembrance Day poppy for your doll.
You will need :
red felt
black felt
a straight pin
craft glue
pair of scissors
First you need to cut out your poppy shape. I like to cut out 4 small hearts approximately the same size. then glue the points of the heart bottoms together.
Next cut out a black poppy center, you can try to cut it with a scalloped edge or just a black circle.
Glue it on top of the points of the heart you glued together. Let it dry. When it is dry, use the straight pin to go through the center and then pin the poppy to your dolls shirt over her "heart" this is the way Canadian's show their appreciation to veterans.
As with all my posts I would love to hear from you so please leave me a comment here or email me at karenmowen@gmail.com
