Brandy's New Years Day Dinner!

It has been a long standing family tradition to have some type of cabbage on
New Year's Day. One of our all time favorites is Grandma Peggy's Cabbage
Rolls.  Yummy!   While I was getting things together for the upcoming New
Year festivities, I thought it would be cute to create something for my
daughters to join in the fun.  To start, I had to create a doll sized
roaster oven.

Roaster Oven:
First I started with a rectangle paper-mache box.  I spray painted the
outside a gloss white and the inside gloss black.  I hot glued a black pony
bead to a black button and then glued that to the front of the box for the
on/off/temp knob.

I used a label maker on a small font to make letter and
number details.  Black pony beads were used for the feet.  I finished the
oven using black foam paper for trimmings and handles.

Cabbage Rolls:
I used stripes of light green felt and rolled and hot glued together.  Sauce
is made from red felt cut into irregular shapes.

As a little extra treat I also made my daughters a pork and sauerkraut
dinner to go with their already made crock-pot.  Please see my posts
on how to make the crock-pot by clicking here.

Pork Roast:
I painted a crafter's sponge a pale tan.  For roast slices I used tan foam
cut into irregular ovals.

Sauerkraut:
I used tan rubber bands cut down into small pieces; served with mashed
potatoes (white pom-poms.)

I am so happy Brandy shared this fun holiday doll meal with us. We wish you a very Happy New year! Please join me in thanking Brandy for her creativity!

Let's Review My New Years Resolutions from 2012

Last year I wrote a list of 12 resolutions and I thought it would be fun to see if I actually completed any of the 12 I set out to do(... here is last years post link if you want to see what I wrote last year.)

Number 1 on my list was "Learn to Crochet".... I tried I took one class and promptly left my hook behind.... I get a FAIL on this one!

Number 2 on my list was "I would like to learn to knit more then a straight row and learn to know what to do next."....I did!!! This one I get a PASS on! I not only kept knitting, in March  I completed a doll sweater and earlier this month published my first knitting pattern. Also in the last week I knit 5 full sized scarves! (Yay me)

Number 3 on my list was "I would like to make some Youtube videos to share more of my work with you,( I need to get over the fear I have of my voice on video)" On this I get a PASS, though I only published one on Doll Diaries in August.

Number 4 on my list "I would like to continue to post daily and share with you all the wonderful people I meet, things I find and shops I come across as well as a craft or two." Well I have continued publishing daily and have met some more wonderful people in the doll world! I get a PASS on this one as well!

Number 5 on my list was  " I would like to be able to share photos of my creative space with you all with out spending three months cleaning it to take one photo and then have it be the disaster it is the next minute. If you are a personal organizer contact me with your suggestions and ideas!" On this I get an EPIC FAIL. Honestly my doll room looks like an episode of hoarders currently.

Number 6 on my list was "I would like to sew through all the patterns I have purchased from Liberty Jane and share my journey with you." I get a PASS on this one steadily sewing through all my patterns from Liberty Jane and enjoying so many of them this year.

Number 7 on my list was "Continue to have great contests and Give Away 's"  A huge thank you to the wonderful Etsy Shop Artisans, Companies  that have donated their wonderful products this year! I get a PASS on this one as well!

Number 8 on the list was "I would love to post more from my readers so if you have a photo, story idea or craft you would like to share please send me an email at karenmowen@gmail.com" I get a PASS on this one as well! Thanks to all who wrote for me and submitted ideas, a special thank you to Madelon who joined out team this year and went from blog follower to contributing writer! Keep your stories and photos coming!

Number 9 on the list was  "I would like to go on more doll adventures, have some meet and greets and more craft parties." I get a PASS on this one as well!

Number 10 on the list was " I would like to add to my doll collection (money, time and opportunity permitting of course) I am looking for a doll that is of Asian Descent to add to my collection, so that I can represent as many girls as I can through my doll photography and posts. As well I would love to add some bitty twins to my collection so if you happen upon these second hand and are able to let me know I would love to purchase some from you!"  On this one I get a PASS as well, I added to my collection so much this year I am overwhelmed and excited to say!

Number 11 on this list was "I would like to feature more doll play ideas and items for Bitty Baby, and Bitty Twins" I get a FAIL on this one, I only wrote one post about bitty twins this year, I really must work on this for next year.

Number 12 on my list was "I would love to keep finding ways to help you enjoy your dolls and find ways to help you grow with your dolls through my craft ideas and blog posts." I think I got a PASS on this one!  I am basing this on all the wonderful comments and emails I have gotten from you my wonderful readers!

So all in all drear readers my report card is this  I complied with 9 of my 12 resolutions. I think that is pretty good! I shall now go and compile my list for 2013 and hope to be as successful next year! A huge thank you to all of you who have inspired me to keep these resolutions this year. I hope you enjoyed today's post and in case you are wondering I am still looking to get American Girl Doll Ivy... I think that will be number one on my list for 2013!

Brandy's Boy Dolls

Today Brandy shares with us her "Boy" Dolls! I am so excited to be able to finally share with you this post!
My daughters had asked me to work with Santa to make them American Boy dolls
for Christmas.  Hmmm, how to make a boy doll?  Well, after a little research
I was able to help Santa make a Christmas wish come true.

I started working on these dolls over the summer.  I wanted to take my time
to avoid mistakes.  I watched several YouTube videos on how to replace wigs
and properly clean the dolls.  You can also find videos to show you how to
tighten lose limbs, but I didn't need to do that with the dolls I used.

First, I searched eBay for gently used dolls.  One doll I purchased was
nearly perfect.  Another doll looked to be perfect in pics but the doll
received had glitter over the eyes and marker across a cheek and lips. I was
fortunate that all limbs were tight.  Don't be afraid to ask for additional
pictures.  Also read all seller feedback.

Next, wigs were removed.  I did not use acetone.  I simply started at the
nape of the neck and pulled up and use and small spoon to wedge the wig up.
Scissors were used when needed.  Both dolls had damaged wigs to begin with,
so I wasn't overly careful with them; they were going to be discarded
regardless. Fine sandpaper was used to sand down any uneven spots from
remaining glue.

Then, each doll was thoroughly cleaned. Make sure eyes are closed and free
from possible water dripping into them.  I used a magic eraser on face and
limbs. If body cloth is dirty, it can be spot cleaned.  If a major
restoration is needed a new fabric torso can be found on eBay.  I used 10%
Benzyl Peroxide acne medicine (with sun exposure) on the marker spots.  It
was successful and all markers were removed from the dolls face.

Wigs had been purchased at www.monique.com. I purchased the Johnny Wig in
blonde and light brown.  Size 10-11.  Tacky glue was used to attach the
wigs.

Here is a list of vendors for boy doll clothes:

Linda's Doll Closet: Linda made my daughters custom made WVU pajamas.  They
are so cute and her prices are very reasonable.  Quality is great too.
I can't wait to order more!

All Dolled Up Doll Clothes:  Terrie made my daughters very cute outfits.
She does have a boy doll line of clothes.  Her clothes are great quality and
will last many years of doll play.  She is great to work with.

Through random searches, I also came by a few gender-neutral outfits on
eBay.  Boy doll briefs can also be purchased at a few Etsy shops.  Tennis
shoes were from the Springfield doll collection and Michael's craft store.
Little accessories such as toy cars, super hero figures, or plastic lizards
all make them more cuter and can be found at your local dollar store.

Thank you to Brandy for sharing her experience with all of us today, I simply must get a boy doll now! I love how inspiring Brandy's ideas are!
