Doll sized candle holders!

 

I found these doll sized candle holders that I thought were perfect for 18 inch doll play. For $1.99 you get 7 in a package and they would make a great birthday party craft at a doll themed party. You can paint them or color them with markers or leave them plain. 

They perfectly fit a birthday candle and if you are worried about the fire risk simply cut the wick and they are perfect for doll play.

You could also use a very thin drinking straw and glue a piece of felt for the flame. What ever makes you feel safest is fine with me!

There are so many great possibilities with this great doll play find. I wanted to show it to you in it's raw stage and invite you to make some wonderful things with it. I myself am going to create a Menorah which I will show you closer to the holiday season.

Wooden Rubber Stamp Alphabet Set Doll sized!

This is a stamp set I found in Michael's clearance bin for 45 cents, seriously! Even at full price of $1.50 it is a great deal. Perfect for making doll sized cards or doll sized scrap book pages this set is completely functional! 
It also makes a great doll plate item as you can balance the stamps on your doll's hand as well!

A great deal for any crafty girl and a a great doll play item!

Perfect doll sized vanity bottles.

 

I love to re-purpose items for doll play as you may know and I found these and had to have them. They are actually erasers but  with a little imagination and $2 you can add some great items to your doll play collection.

This "vanity" tray I picked up at Michael's the craft store for only 45 cents

The Eracer set was only $1.50

The bath tub set I have is from our generation in case you are wondering. The duck is from the dollar store and I made the bath puff. I love how it all comes together don't you? The "vanity" tray was called a Trinket dish and was on clearance and doubles as a great doll plate or platter as well.

Doll sized Alphabet blocks! A great craft store find.

Wandering the isles at Michael's and enjoying their air conditioning on a warm summer day I came across these adorable blocks that are absolutely perfect doll sized blocks.
Great Doll play idea here but if your 18 inch American girl doll is baby sitting the bitty twins this is a perfect activity for her to do with them not to mention a great photo op. I unfortunately do not have a set of the twins, my twin nieces do but they live 3,000 miles away and I could not borrow them for the photo shoot so I though I would give the idea to you.
these blocks cost $2.49 and you get 15 in a package.

I managed to get my blocks to spell something as well!
I totally recommend picking up these blocks for your doll play collection they are fun to play with and if you are worried about loosing small pieces you could glue yours together. They make great photo props as well.

A great doll play find from Michael's, a doll sized watering can

I was at Michaels' the other day and picked up this doll sized watering can in the floral department. They had so many to choose from and it was hard to choose what size and shape I would like best for my doll play collection.

This watering can was a little more then I like to pay for doll play items but at $2.49 it was not a bad price either.  Now if I could find some doll sized plants that would make a great doll play back yard set up and great photo op!

Thrift store Gems why I love them

If you are a regular reader to my blog then you know I write about my dollar store and thrift store finds and I refer to them as gems. I love finding thrift store gems. I call them"Gems" because like any good treasure hunt you will come back with great treasure like "Gems". I feel this way about dollar store items as well. I love to find doll related items and items I can re-purose for doll play and I am not alone.
I am happy that there are many other treasure hunters out there like me. One of the other hunters in my area has found some amazing Gems at our local thrift store for really great deals. Barb (who you may remember from the post about her birthday gift to her niece) invited me into her daughter's room to show me some of these fantastic finds.

I love this find, Barb's daughter stores her dolls food and accessories in this great "pantry" find. Barb paid only $4 for this great piece.

These thrift store gems also under $5, are perfect bed side tables and doll sized dressers

One of her thrift store finds, and my personal  favorites has to be the doll sized kayak. Barb found this at our local thrift store and paid less then $7.

I wanted you to see  these great doll play finds to show you that you can find some pretty amazing items at thrift stores. Don't forget shop yard sales for incredible deals as well .

When you find a thrift store or yard sale find and you bring it home for your doll play collection you are doing the environment  a great service by reusing an item that may end up in a landfill. Not to mention the money you could save building your doll play collection.

The Spa experience at the Seattle Amerian Girl Store

One of the coolest activities you can do at the American Girl store is send your doll to the spa so they can experience some very special (and practical) treatments designed especially for them.
There are many options available at the Spa from hairstyling, to ear piercing and the somewhere in between.
The doll salon offers an up grade service with the hair styling options.
For hair styling alone the price is $10-$20 depending on what look you are going for and what is possible for your dolls type of hair. You can also add for and additional $5 pampering for your doll which includes a set of nail stickers with the hair style. Another option that is very special is the deluxe spa package which includes a face mask and cucumber eye stickers to take home, nail stickers as well as the most adorable spa slippers and towel cape, all for only and additional $12. Your doll will also be given a good surface cleaning with this option.

You can also have your dolls ears pierced at this location for only $14 and you get a set of earrings in addition to the set your doll receives in her ear.

It is important to note that if you do not have an American Girl doll, the store can not pierce your dolls ears. This is not a punishment in anyway for not having an American Girl doll but rather a risk management policy that is there to protect your non American girl doll. I was told that if your non American girl doll was to have her ears pierced by the store and something was to happen to your doll that was irreplaceable they would feel terrible and unable to make it right. However if you would like your non American Girl doll's hair to be done while visiting the store it is possible to have it done, you will have to sign a waiver as not all 18 inch doll's hair is the same and the wigs on other dolls may not be created in the same way that the American Girl doll's wigs are and some styles may not be achievable on non American Girl Doll's hair. The staff tell me that they are thrilled to work with the girls to ensure that they have a great experience with the dolls that they bring in for styling and do their very best work on all the dolls (no matter which brand).
I was curious as to what it takes to become a doll hair stylist at American Girl and was told there was a three day intensive training course. I asked the staff what they liked learning about the most and one of the staff shared with me that they really liked seeing how the end product turns out on each and every doll.
