Sew A Purse For A Great Cause

One of our wonderful readers pointed this project out to me and thought some of you may be interested in participating. Sew Powerful and Liberty Jane (the people behind Pixie Faire)have come up with an incredible way of helping girls in Zambia attend school. "The purses you provide are used in local schools and clinics in Lusaka Zambia as part of Menstration Hygiene Management (MHM) programs. This simple gift – combined with re-usable sanitary pads and health information can make a tremendous difference in the lives of adolescent girls. Read about the amazing results of our 2014 Sew Powerful Purse Project here. Our ministry partners work hard to educate and inform the girls in their community so that they stay in school and grow in confidence and self-esteem. It really is sew powerful!"
This is an amazing program and if you can help sew a purse and mail it before October 1 to the address provided in the link you will be making a difference in the life of another person.
Thank you to reader Darlene for alerting me to this wonderful project.

Have You Ever Wondered About The Design Academy? QTπ Doll Clothing Shares Her Thoughts!

Marilyn of QTπ Doll Clothing has graciously agreed to shared with us her thoughts on recently completing the Design Academy offered through Liberty Jane www.pixiefare.com.

When did you decided to take the course and what lead you to it?

"I had wanted to take the course before it was even being offered again. I had seen and heard and seen the difference it had made it the quality of work in previous Design Academy participants."

What is the most important thing you learned in the course?
"The different layers of designs that Cinnamon outlines throughout the course really all come to gather at the end and allows you to make designs that are not just doll clothes, but real people clothes that fit dolls."

What do you think you gained from taking the course?
"I gained so much from the course, but some of the more memorable things I gained were; a whole new network of friends with the same passions and a tremendous amount knowledge, the confidence I was lacking in myself as a designer and the unbelievable support of Cinnamon and her team(which you can get without the course)."

What do you want my readers to know about learning to sew and design?
"I think when you are learning to sew or design take chances and jump in feet first. Not every design works out perfectly, but you definitely learn something from every design. I think the design Academy is a great course to take from beginner to even a professional seamstress. I have been sewing for 20 years and what I learned was invaluable."

Please share anything you would like my readers to know!

"I am proudly a Canadian."

It is important to know that the course is not intended to teach you about pattern design, but it is where I was inspired to make patterns. Making my final project piece is where I came up with my first pattern design.
Springtime Fun Jacket- http://www.pixiefaire.com/collections/qt-doll-clothing/products/spring-time-fun-jacket-18-dolls. I now have 10 patterns published and three more in the works for the fall line. I am having a blast creating and designing:)

This is a picture of my final project piece. It is a Homage to Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games. It is called “The Huntress”. The boots are from one of my favourite designers Meg of Miche Designs- The Miche Boot- http://www.pixiefaire.com/collections/miche-designs/products/miche-boots-18-doll-shoes

Thank you to Marilyn for sharing her experience with us today!

A new way to shop for quality made doll clothes, from the creators of Libberty Jane!

As a Liberty Jane partner I am so excited to share with you a new way to shop for quality made doll clothes and more on a newly launched site called http://dollabee.com/ . Here doll clothes makers can list their products with out a listing fee. This site works allot like Craigs list and is all doll related. I am thrilled to have found this new way to market my products and find other amazing doll  clothes crafters and designers.
I have joined and love the idea of listing products with out a fee.  I have added the information from the Dollabee page so you can find out all about Dollabee and I hope you will visit the site soon!
About Dollabee:
When people want to sell their American Girl Doll, (or any other doll), they go to EBay, or Craigslist, or put on a garage sale. But these marketplaces aren’t ideal, because the potential buyers are few and far between, and might not know the fair value of the item.
When families want to sell original American Girl brand, (or any other manufactured/branded), clothing they go to EBay or Craigslist.
When artisans and seamstresses want to sell custom made/couture clothing for dolls, they go to those places, and/or Etsy.
We thought – there has to be a better way!
We frequently hear that EBay is too expensive, and that Etsy doesn’t give enough time or attention to the doll clothes category. And of course you can’t list your old Josefina doll on Etsy, so it’s not a complete solution for sellers. And Craigslist is not ideal for the doll collector community for a whole bunch of reasons. Again, we thought – there has got to be a better way! What would an ideal marketplace look like? We’ll we would need a Craigslist-type-site – that is exclusively focused on Dolls – that is fun and inviting! So that is what we’ve built.
Dollabee is a classifieds website similar to Craigslist, but exclusively for dolls, doll clothes, and accessories. We are limiting the items permitted to exclude mass manufactured items that are not original/branded items. In other words, we want this to be a place for 1) Collectors selling their original doll items, or 2) Seamstresses and artisans selling custom/couture clothing and accessories. Basically yeah – we don’t want any low quality mass manufactured items.
The listing price is free, like Craigslist. But if you want to have a featured listing – it’s $5 for a week.
As with Craigslist – you can list your item and sell it directly using Paypal to finish the transaction with your customer, (This is very cost effective). Or, if you want, you can continue to list things on EBay or Etsy, then come to Dollabee and create a listing. In that way, Dollabee can become a central marketplace for customers – regardless of where they might finish the transaction.
