My own Harmony Club Doll Arianna has Arrived

I am thrilled to share with you today my newest doll Arianna, a Harmony Club Doll.
She recently arrived and I am so excited to share her with you.

She is an 18 inch doll with an amazing head of cascading strawberry blonde wavy hair (which is a wig and not rooted).

She has the most adorable freckle pattern of any doll I have ever seen. Her outfit is very trendy and her boots are fantastic, very easy to take off and put on.

Her nails are also very lightly colored giving her a polished look.

The Harmony Club Dolls are new to the 18 inch doll market and full of doll play potential.  This new line of dolls and clothing is sure to delight any doll lover or collector alike.

Comparing Arianna to my American Girl Doll Ruthie I notice that even though Arianna measures in at 18 inches, Ruthie seems a bit taller. I notice this with some of my AG dolls some are taller then other AG,just like girls no two seem to be exactly alike.
You can see what I the height difference better in this photo. Arianna's hair is down behind her knees!
Lots of styling potential in this doll.
I also got the new Mystical Mermaid Costume with silver slippers. This outfit is very colorful easy to put on and a hit with my young niece. She says it is like a parade outfit.
Here is a close up of the adorable shoes.

I am so excited by their line of doll clothing and costumes for dolls. Check out their Halloween outfits, I really want the pumpkin one! Love the boots too!

Caroline Abbot~ Thoughts

If you follow the Doll world and introduction of new products from American Girl then you know all about their newest historical doll Caroline Abbot.
Caroline Abbot's Story is from 1812. Her stories are from a very rich time in history.
I love that American Girl writes historically based fiction for girls, from a girls point of view.

Doll Diaries has kindly previewed her book collection which you can read by clicking here as well as posted a photo of her 6 inch version.
I have been asked my thoughts and opinions of her as a doll, historical figure and collection and today I wanted to share them with you.

First my thoughts about the 18 inch doll ....
At first look of Caroline I decided that she was not a doll I would immediately put on my wish list. She is a beautiful doll and I know she will make so many girls blissfully happy. As an Adult Doll collector she is not the doll for me. That being said I would buy her in a heart beat for one of my nieces as she is marketed to them and not me. Her clothing is a pretty pink color but not my favorite part of her. I love her hair, and I think she looks so much like Lannie Girl of the year doll. So if you were lucky enough to get Lannie while you had the chance I would snap up parts of her collection and they could be sisters or cousins for sure.

My thoughts on her collection....
I am thrilled as a an Adult Doll Collector with her collection, I love the boat, and her "room" but the price is truly going to make many parents have to make tough choices.

My thoughts on her clothing line...
I love this time period and clothing from this era, I look forward to seeing these outfits and I love the outfits I am seeing on Etsy from Doll Clothes Designers. Even if you do no add Caroline to your doll family I highly suggest adding pieces from her collection or time period from Etsy to your doll play wardrobe.

My thoughts on her story and books....
Some of you may know that I am Canadian, living in Canada and Caroline's story and book collection is about a time where my country of Canada (Canada was a part of the British Empire at the time) and that of The United States were at war. War is a sensitive subject at the best of times and I am interested to see how the war is perceived by Caroline and how it is incorporated in her story. I will reserve judgment on the story until I have read it. That being said I know that around the world so many girls of military families will relate to Caroline's story. I am looking forward to reading her story.

*Thank you  to Doll Diaries for most of the images in today's post

All in all my thoughts are positive on Caroline and her historical line. I would love to hear from you on your thoughts about Caroline. As with all my posts I would love to hear from you so please leave me a comment here or email me at karenmowen@gmail.com

Knit the perfect Fall Sweaters for your doll with Patterns from Macatawa Knitting

Macatawa Knitting's Etsy shop offers knitting pattens for 18 inch and 15 inch dolls.

Fall for me is all about Sweater Weather and I love all the options we have for pairing Beautifully made sweaters with our favorite pair of jeans.

If you are a knitting doll lover take a look at the fun patterns offered at Macatawa knitting by clicking here
My love of doll Holiday Sweaters kept me busy looking at all this shop had to offer. I love the Halloween Sweater patterns offered at $6 and there are two options for this sweater!
I also loved the Puppy Love Sweater all the patterns in this shop are offered at $6 each

I asked shop owner Erli about the shops best sellers and about her knitting history, here is what she shared with me:
"My best sellers are Cupcake, Tulip Time Dress, Popsicle, Candy Block Cardigan, Carioca Poncho and Skirt, and Miss Ellen.  Of the newer ones, Candy Sprinkles Bathrobe, Bubble Gum Shrug,Three Seamless skirts, and Flowers, Leaves and Bugs.  My best Christmas one is Christmas Wreath with Rudolph right behind it."

"I learned to knit when I was about 12 years old but through the years only made a few sweaters.  I began seriously knitting when a friend named Lindy, an expert knitter, opened a local yarn shop eight years ago.  I have since become addicted."

"Based on customer requests, Lindy encouraged me to create patterns for 18" dolls.  She then worked with me to learn the language of patterns.  She prominently displayed all of my samples and sold patterns to people from all over the country.  Lindy retired and closed her shop this year but remains my mentor, advisor, and friend."

"I am a designer by profession, and the process of creating patterns has fascinated me.  I am retired, so I've had time to learn new computer skills, how to create the pattern format, ways to photograph samples, how to navigate Etsy and Ravelry, and a little about marketing and business.  I have now sold about 3,000 patterns and 500 booklets in six countries that include The United States, Canada, Brazil, England, The Netherlands, and France."

"Early in the process of designing doll patterns, Sandy, from Boise, Idaho, bought a few patterns and offered to be my test knitter.  I've never met her, but she and her test knitting have been invaluable.  I secretly suspect she has a lot of sleeves and backs somewhere.  I couldn't have done this without Sandy and Lindy, and, as a bonus, their input and feedback have been positive and encouraging."
I also asked Erli for any advice she could offer my knitting novice readers:

"My advice to those who want to knit for dolls is that it is a great way to learn and/or practice new skills and techniques within a small project.  I find many, especially new knitters, are reluctant to try Fair Isle, Intarsia, maybe even cables, and are anxious about joining pieces.  Just remember, the doll doesn't care if the sweater isn't perfect and the doll's owner will be excited to have something hand knit for them!"
If you are living in the Michigan area and wish to pick up Erli's patterns in person take a look at
Yarn Quest in Traverse City, Stitching Memories in Portage, Clever Ewe in Ada, Nautical Yarn in Ludington, an J.T. Stitchery in Rockford.

"I have one doll pattern published in a pattern book, Easy as 1 - 2 - 3 Skeins, pp. 92 - 94.  My patterns are available as wholesale to shops and retail on Etsy with a few on Ravelry."

I love Elri's Frosty the Snowman sweater pattern almost as much as I love the Halloween patterned sweater , with such reasonably priced patterns you will not be forced to choose only one!
This Christmas Time Pattern is also on my favorites list, it is so cute!
Also offered in this shop is a pattern for a Pleated Skirt and Leg warmer set would be a welcome addition to any dolls fall wardrobe!
Check out all the wonderful patterns offered at Macatawa's Etsy Shop
