Yesterday I showed you how to make cupcakes with needle felting, today how about a super easy cotton candy. If you do not have the supplies to needle felt I am sure you can use cotton batting and glue to create a very similar look.
First I made a Cone out of card stock and taped it closed, then I rolled up some of the fibers and began needle felting keeping an opening to insert the cone. When I had the density I was looking for I heated up my glue gun and glued the cone to the fibers. Simple easy and fun and DONE IN UNDER 5 minutes.
Needle felted items would make a great party activity for older girls and would make a great loot bag treat. As with all my posts I would love to hear from you so please leave me a comment here or email me at karenmowen@gmail.com

Needle felting Cupcakes for your doll
Then I ran out of supplies. Just before Christmas my mother in law went to a store in Vancouver and bought me some amazing colored wool to keep creating. I made more gnomes and a mouse but today I set out on making cupcakes for 18 inch dolls. Needle felting is something I really like because I am an impatient crafter and if I can not make something start to finish in under 30 minutes I really get frustrated (some of my larger pieces of Needle felting take me up to 2 hours but they are quite large compared to the cupcakes)
I used a light pink, light purple and red to great this cupcake which took start to finish 15 minutes.
I always work over recycled bubble mailers but you can work over a foam block as well
With Needle felting you have to be very careful to not hut your fingers with the very sharp needle. You push the needle in and out and the fibers get more dense, to add another color you just work the needle and push the fibers together.
The fibers come in long strips you just cut as you need. The needle has a little curve at the top and barbs at the bottom.
Needle felting should be done with an adult if you are new to needle felting. It does hurt if you poke your finger with the needle but with very little practice I know you will love this fun and inexpensive craft!
You can purchase supplies on line or look in your local wool shops for supplies.

Make your own Doll wardrobe for under $10!
If you are like me you are running out of storage for doll items. Here is a great storage idea. I love this one. I bought a plastic storage bin from my local Wal-mart for $6.97 and I used a bamboo stick (you can use a wooden dowel) and cut it to fit through the crate. Using the hangers I picked up at Michaels the craft store (the small white wire ones) and the ones I picked up at the American Girl Doll store in Boston. Now I can easily organize and hang up the dresses I sell in my Etsy store.
For under $10 I am really impressed with this reusable and re-purposed doll wardrobe. As with all my posts I would love to hear from you so please email me at karenmowen@gmail.com or leave a comment here.

Cowboy Hats perfect for 18 inch dolls!
I love re purposing items for doll play. I found these great Cowboy hats perfect for dolls while I was in a party store in the great state of Connecticut.
This package of hats was just what I was looking for having been at the American Girl doll store the day before and my sister had picked up one of the AG cowboy hats for one of my nieces, but buying three was almost as much as buying a new doll so she settled on just the one. When I found these I knew she would be thrilled this way the other two (my twin nieces) would also get a cowboy hat and in their favorite colors of blue and green)
I totally recommend these hats which fit perfectly on the dolls head. These can easily be decorated with ribbons as a party activity or are perfect in loot bag.

Doll cakes from Target another great Gem!
While on my trip to visit my sister we stopped in a Target store (we do not have these yet in Canada) and as always I hit the party supply section. These erasers that look like delicious cakes and pastries were just what I was looking for. For $2 you get a mixture of pastries and cakes that are the perfect size for 18 inch dolls.
The erasers would make a great addition to any doll themed birthday or tea party and would also be great as accessories for a "doll bake sale". Children would love these in lootbags. Another great idea would be Christmas crackers if you are one to think ahead.

Personalized Doll Hair Brushes
I made these fantastic personalized doll hair brushes for a recent doll party loot bag gift. I use wire pet brushes that I found at my dollar store and used the Letter Bubble Stickers from American Girl Doll Crafts I got from my sister who picked them up in the USA at Micheals the craft store. As well I used coordinated ribbon and flower stickers also from Micheals to create these easy crafts. These hair brushes for dolls can be made as a party activity or like I did them as a part of the loot bag.
* I have bought three doll hair brushes from American Girl and the brushes have all come apart with in two weeks. These pet brushed are also wire and hold together so much better for longer and at a fraction of the cost. as with the AG hair brush, when using it to style dolls hair lightly mist the hair and start at the bottom to ensure you do not snag or break the dolls hair.
