Well to be honest I got the Christmas wish book in the middle of August, I love getting this book, I love this time of year and highlighting and dog eared pages of the wish book are a time honored tradition on my side of the family my sister Bre-Anne got hers first three days before me in Montreal where she lives and here I am seeing the photos from the catalog over Skype. So I could find out what my Niece Trinity wanted for her birthday in December.
Sears now has a line of 18 inch dolls that look much better then the line they had this time last year though two of the "new" dolls look like they have been repackaged and dressed from last year.
These new NEWBERRY dolls are Katie, Allie, Lily, Emma, Brooklyn and Noelle.
They have the price point of $29.99 and are stylishly dressed. To be honest with you I like the look of them better then the Our Generation ones Zellers in Canada (Target in the USA) sell. These dolls remind me of the Journey Girl dolls. Especially Emma who really looks like Meredeth I am not actually convinced they are not the same doll.
Emma looks so much like Meredith don't you think?
This is Lilly in the Red outfit
The one doll that really caught my eye was Lily, though I did not like her outfit I do like the her facial features. She is very much my favorite.
The line sears carries also offers the "Clip on Chair" which looks very much like the sweet treat chair fir $29.99 and their own version of the hair styling chair also $29.99. The best deal and the item my niece is getting for her birthday is the "Mini Scooter" that looks very similar to the AG one, as it is only $19.99 and Sears offers a ship a gift option I ordered it and had it shipped to my sister in Montreal to avoid the delay or the disappointment of them being sold out.
The American Girl Scooter,
and the Newberry Scooter.
The most beautiful item in their collection has to be the Newberry Horse and Sleigh, for $129.00 you get the holiday sleigh complete with with sliver sleigh bells, that any girl would love and the most beautiful black horse the brush and a blanket for the horse are included. I am so kicking myself for not buying the one from Toys R Us that was white and on sale for only $49.99 when I was in Palm Springs. If I had room I would have loved to have this set.
I really like that there is a line of affordable 18 inch dolls in Canada, however having both American Girl Dolls and a Maplelea Doll I know that there is no way that the quality of the dolls hair would be comparable but I do think this would make a very nice starter 18 inch doll. To order these dolls you can shop on line at www.sears.ca or you can call 1-800-267-3277. You can find the dolls on pages 740 and 741 in the 2011 Christmas Wish Book from Sears.
As with all my posts I would love to hear from you so please leave me a comment here or email me at karenmowen@gmail.com
I searched for these on sears.com but couldn't find them...
ReplyDeleteAre these made by Lotus Onda Company?
ReplyDeleteYes they are
DeleteEach of my 3 daughters got one of the Sears dolls for Christmas last year. I actually really like them. I don't have any AG dolls but the dolls we have are beautiful, their hair is nice and stands up to brushing and I love their expressions. I am very pleased with them. I will have to check out those accessories . . . maybe Grandma will have to buy some of those for Christmas this year!
ReplyDeleteThese dolls are definitely cute and the resemblance to the Journey girls is pretty amazing. I wonder if both lines are made by the same manufacturer?
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your comments! I am not sure if they are made by the same company but I believe that they may be. I think that the accessories in the Christmas Wish book are a great deal and My sister tells me the scooter has arrived in Montreal for my niece for her birthday, I will post when she puts it together in December! Order early to avoid disappointment!Priya to find these dolls you will have to go to www.sears.ca as they are in Canada only. Who would not love that horse and sleigh!
ReplyDeleteOh, I wish I could get Lily, but I don't live in Canada! :(
ReplyDeleteYou can buy these on the secondary market. I just bought Emma online at Amazon. There is a bit of a Markup, but it's worth it if you really want a doll. The nice thing about Amazon, you can get a price range from various sellers that may appeal to you.
DeleteSo no more Dollie & Me dolls for Sears? I really like the sweater and leggings outfit.
ReplyDeleteI heard that also, I am so sad I loved the line, I thought that it was only here in Canada though. I got one of my nieces a Christmas Dress on sale, still hoping to find more in the larger sizes for my other nieces.
ReplyDeleteThank you for making this website. My daughter loves Allie the Newberry doll, and of course I cannot find her anywhere. Thats my fault for being a procrastinator, if it weren,t for the last minute nothing would get done. Any suggestions of where I can look? Do you think the dolls will be back in stores after the new year?
ReplyDeleteThank you,
Denise
my friend has allie the newberry doll she looks beautiful. i might get one myself!
ReplyDeleteI am wondering if the clothes from these dolls would fit a Maplelea doll?? We have a Maplelea doll and would like to be able to swap the clothes...are they similar in size/shape?
ReplyDeleteSome of the Maplelea Clothing will fit these dolls but the arms are longer and thinner on a Maplelea Doll making the gloves from some of the sets not work but mostly yes the clothes will fit.
ReplyDeleteMy niece has the Katy doll but I would like to get her some accesories... don't see anything on sears.ca. Any hints?
ReplyDeletehi Sierra, I did find some things in store and you can find some on line Page 178 of the Christmas Catalog has lots but not sure what is in stock still http://www.sears.ca/virtual-catalogue/publication/2/61/ I wrote this original post a year ago about these dolls but this year Sears did add lots of great accessories, you can also try toys R Us and look for Journey Girl items that should fit her doll as well.
ReplyDeleteDoes Newberry clothing fit the dolls sold at Walmart " My life as a doll". The dolls from Walmart seem bigger than the Newberry ones. I ordered clothing from the wishbook and I am wondering if it would fit the journey and the Walmart one.
ReplyDeleteThanks
The Walmart Dolls are 20 inches tall but the clothing should still fit. My nice has one of the Walmart dolls and most 18 inch clothing fits her. I hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteThese look like Constructive Playthings' Today's Girl Collection (http://www.cptoy.com/category/doll-play/todays-girl). The Lily face seems like the Leah face there. My guess is the that the Emma face is the same?
ReplyDeleteNonna
My granddaughter has a Newberry doll and we recently discovered Maplelea. I ordered her a couple of outfits from them and I must say that the quality is superb. My granddaughter would love to have a boy 18 inch doll and I was wondering if anyone knows where I might find one. I've come across some US sites with boy dolls but they are quite expensive and the shipping is outrageous. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking time to comment. Boy dolls can be ordered in a few places. My London Girl http://www.mylondongirl.co.uk/ offers two boy dolls (I have one he is fab!) and you can also order from http://www.harmonyclubdolls.com/ and there is a new company in the USA My sibling dolls http://www.mysiblingdolls.com/
DeleteThanks. I will check them out!
Deleteis a maplelea doll worth the extra money over the newberry?
ReplyDeleteHi Shelley, Maplelea is a wonderful doll line. It is very high quality. I have two of the dolls and I highly recommend them for many reasons. Their wigs are higher quality then the American Girl Dolls, the accessories and clothing are made to surpass Canada's standards for toys. The items that Maplelea Sells are some of the best made doll items I have ever seen and worked with. That being said the doll line that Sears is offering makes a wonderful doll. Some people call them "starter dolls" to see if the child will bond with the doll before spending the money on a higher quality doll. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that bond between daughter and doll is one only time will tell. In my own opinion I do believe that the investment in a Maplelea Doll is worth the money. I believe Maplelea Dolls like the American Girl Dolls are heirloom quality meaning they can be passed down through the generations.
ReplyDeleteI have made clothes for my daughters doll she has emma and imm finding the 18 inch doll clothes pattern is about two inchs too long so im thinking the ag dolls have bigger waists
ReplyDeleteJust came across this blog as I am thinking about a doll for my four year old for Christmas. My daughter loves playing with dolls so I know whatever I purchase will be adored and played with often. Debating between a Maplelea and a Newberry. Advice? Is it crazy to invest in a Maplelea for a four year old? Also wondering if Newberry clothes fit a Maplelea doll.
ReplyDeletePersonally I love the Maplelea dolls and the quality is very high for their hair so for that reason I say yes they are worth the investment, however at 4 it is not a bad idea to go with the Newberry doll to start, lock your scissors as the doll haircuts seem to begin around age 4. In my opinion it is important to have a doll to love, we all are drawn to different companies for different reasons, I think the Newberry dolls are a lovely place to start.
DeleteAre the clothes for Journey girl and Newberry interchangeable then if they are the same size and body frame?
DeleteAre the clothes interchangeable from Journey girl and Newberry then if they are so similar in size and body frame?
ReplyDeleteYes they are similar, though I am not sure if the Newberry bottoms are thicker then the Journey Girl, The Newberry ones have soft bodies too.
